Aaron Dean

also: Col. Aaron Dean (colloquial) · Aaron Dean Esq. (merchant)

Youngest son of Jeremiah Dean (II) and Rebekah Scott of Dedham MA. Served his apprenticeship at the Petersham MA store of Nathaniel Maccarty, where on 4 February 1787 he personally witnessed Shays Rebellion break and run, the rebels leaving their stacked arms and a warm breakfast for Gen. Lincoln's troops. Moved to Charlestown NH soon after and ran a merchant store under Maccarty's patronage for nearly 40 years. Married Phyla Walker, daughter of Col. Abel Walker of Charlestown, on 4 Nov 1790. Was President of the first Bank of Charlestown in 1824 and director 1824-29. Died suddenly of heart disease 22 July 1829. The 'Col.' rank that surfaced in our earlier records was honorific or possibly conflated with his father-in-law Col. Abel Walker. Aaron's own service was civilian and commercial. Father of Sally Walker Dean (b. 1795, m. Henry Hubbard NH Governor).
