Daughter of Henry Lorenz and Emma Rodde; half-sister to Carrie and Jim. After her mother's death in 1917, Fannie Mae Shafer was hired to care for her. After Henry married Mae, Lorena had Carrie and Jim as younger half-siblings. Graduated high school 1930, worked downtown. Married Edward F. Gross October 25, 1936; no children. Eddie's family had a farm where Lorena, Eddie, Carrie, and Jim spent summers. Eddie's having a car was a big advantage to the family — the Lorenz household had no car after Henry's Model T accident.
